Troubleshooting Scutely
Most issues clear up with a couple of quick steps. Here are the common ones.
The app feels slow or stuck
- Close and reopen the app.
- Make sure you’re on the latest version from the App Store or Play Store.
- Restart your device if it persists.
I can’t find a species
- Use the search in the species picker. Try both the common and scientific name.
- If it genuinely isn’t there, request it through the HerpDex.
My changes aren’t showing on another device
- Scutely syncs your data to your account. Make sure you’re signed in to the same account and have an internet connection, then reopen the app.
A public animal page isn’t loading
- Confirm the animal is set to public on its Privacy screen. See Public animal pages.
- Public pages and listings require a paid plan. Check your plan.
My printer doesn’t show up when printing a card
- Cards print through your device’s system print dialog, so the printer must support AirPrint (iOS) or Mopria (Android).
- USB-only and ZPL-only printers (like most DYMO models and older industrial Zebras) won’t appear. See Thermal label printing for supported printers.
I’m over my animal limit after a plan change
- Your animals aren’t deleted. The extras are locked until you resubscribe or upgrade. See Plans & tiers.
I’m not getting notifications
- Check Settings → Notification Settings in Scutely. Both the notification type and Enable Push Notifications need to be on.
- Check your device’s notification permissions for Scutely (in iOS/Android settings).
- Hatch and lay reminders come from your records: a clutch needs an expected hatch date for hatch alerts to fire.
Sign-in trouble
- Use the same method you signed up with (Apple, Google, or email).
- For a forgotten password, use the password-reset option on the sign-in screen.
